Keyless Entry
Twisting keys in the lock is disappearing from the past, and a lot of new vehicles now have keyless entry. You can unlock your car by pressing the button on the fob, or by grabbing the door handle. This allows you to remain hands free and not have to search through your bag searching for keys.
The system works because the car sends out a radio transmission that is picked up and returned by the key fob. This is then recognised by the car and it will typically open the doors or turn on the interior lighting (if set up to do so).
Certain keyless entry systems don't require fobs. Instead, they use an app on your phone to transmit a signal directly to the car. This is also known as a phone-as key, or a digital-key. It can be an excellent way to let other drivers access your car without having to hand over keys.
